Let's get this out of the way first. Peanuts are NOT nuts. There. Done.  

Nuts and seeds contain many micronutrients that act as antioxidants, provided that they are eaten raw and with minor (or no) processing.


Heating (roasting) and refining reduces the health promoting antioxidant effects. Since nuts contain both Ω3 and Ω6 fatty acids, we have to be careful with their consumption. Ω3 = anti-infammatory. Ω6 = pro inflammatory. Also, nuts are very calorie dense and are easy to over consume.
