Carbohydrates

We are not "Carbophobic".

But, carbs can be an impediment to reaching your goals, and have to be managed intelligently. The amount and type of carbs that you can tolerate will be most directly influenced by your metabolic state, activity level, overall health status and age. The fact is, some people feel and perform better with some carbs in their diet. Other people function and perform best with very little carbs...

  • Generally speaking, people who are insulin sensitive will be able to handle more carbs than someone who is insulin resistant, regardless of activity level, age and gender.
  • Your carb needs can change. In other words, many people find that what "worked for them 10 years ago" no longer works now, and some changes may need to be made.
  • People who are less active will require fewer carbs to maintain good health and a healthy weight.
  • People who need to lose body fat will usually have the best results by controlling the type and amount of carbs that they take in.
  • Endurance and power athletes will have differing carb needs depending on their goals and whether they are: fuelling for competition, wanting muscle mass gain, maintaing strength or cutting weight.
